Miscellaneous

Author of three books: I have written three books, one in English, purely for doctors on emergency medicine by the name of “Managing Acute Medical Emergencies” and the other two in Urdu for general public and for health care professionals by the name of "بیماریوں کی حقیقت ”. Each book consists of 320+ pages.

Intensive Care Unit experience: I also remained Director of the General Intensive Care Unit, LRH from 13-9-2000 till June 2003. I was responsible for the administration of the ICU and also the management of the critically ill patients admitted in the unit including artificial ventilatory support.

GI Endoscopist: I have a large experience of gastrointestinal endoscopies with more than 1000 independent endoscopies in my credit. Apart from diagnostic procedures like taking biopsies, I can also perform therapeutic procedures like band ligations, sclerotherapy of the varices etc.

CME activities: I have authored two books that were launched in March this year. Each one of them consists of more than 300 pages, has been published by renowned Paramount Publishers, Karachi. One book is in English, purely for doctors by the name of “Managing Acute Medical Emergencies” and the other book is in Urdu by the name of ’’بیماریوں کی حقیقت‘‘ (Beemaryon ki haqeeqat) written for the benefit of common public. However, the latter book would also benefit the doctors, paramedics and nursing staff by helping them in counselling their patients in their local language. Both the books have been received with great enthusiasm by both doctors and general public and quite a few articles have been written in daily newspapers regarding both the books.

I am also regularly attending national and international conferences especially related to Diabetes, Hypertension and Hepatology. I am also involved in regular GP training seminars conducted by different pharmaceuticals and writing on different topics related to diabetes and liver in daily newspapers for public awareness.

Chairman of Institutional Ethical Review Board (ERB): I am also working as the chairman of the committee who reviews research synopsis and protocols to be conducted in Lady Reading Hospital and grant their ethical approval to allow the research to be done. We not only examine the ethical aspect of the research but also consider the technical aspects and the feasibility of the protocols for final approval.

My vision about myself: I am working presently as Professor in the department of Medicine in the Postgraduate Medical Institute, Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar.
